Madonna and her touring family (I call it a family because thats what you become when you spend months together days and nights. Well unfortunatley.. Madonna’s touring family lost not one but two members when a stage -crew member was crushed when parts of the stage roof at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille.
Charles Prow, 23, died overnight from injuries he suffered when a section of stage roof collapsed on to a number of workers yesterday.
Another French worker was killed instantly when the giant structure fell apart.
Eight other workers were injured, of whom five are in a serious condition.
The pop star had been scheduled to perform a concert in Marseille on July 19 but the show was cancelled immediately after the accident.
Madonna, who was in Italy at the time, issued a statement saying she was devastated by the news.
On her website she said: “My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.”
Marseille city authorities said all the victims worked for a company called Live Nation, which was preparing the show at the 60,000-seater Stade Velodrome.
The cause of the collapse is not clear but police have said a faulty power winch may have played a part.
