The defamation of character lawsuit against Oprah was settled yesterday after she and Lerato Nomvuyo Mzamane, the woman suing her, had a private conversation without their lawyers present. Mzamane was the headmistress at Oprah’s South African school when allegations of abuse surfaced in the news; she was accused of knowing about the abuse and covering it up. In her lawsuit, she claimed that she was defamed after a private conversation about the issue was made public in the news. After their meeting, both of their lawyers released this statement: “The two parties met woman to woman without their lawyers and are happy that they could resolve this dispute peacefully to their mutual satisfaction.”
