Tyler Perry is remaking the classic and critically acclaimed play by Ntozake Shange, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,” into a play. He recently announced the cast of actresses who will take part in it: Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Phylicia Rashad, Whoopi Goldberg, Kimberly Elise, Loretta Divine, Jurnee Smollett, Kerry Washington, and Macy Gray.

The riveting play, consisting of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color — deal with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape, and abortion.

This will be the first film on Perry’s 34th Street Films, which is under Lionsgate.
