According to a government report, there were 290,000 jobs added in the month of April, the largest gain made in the labor force since March 2006. About 66,000 of the jobs were provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, but private employers also added 231,000 employees to their payroll. The report also stated that unemployment is up to 9.9%, but the increase is largely due to individuals who had left the work force and have since returned to look for employment.
