Halftime Show Will Include A Woman?
Finally, the time has come. Ever since the Super Bowl halftime show in 2004, when Janet Jackson AND Justin Timberlake flashed her pierced nipple (which, by the way, overshadowed my Patriots’ win that year in the media… grrr) the NFL and all affiliated organizers have played it safe, even going so far as to only have male performers since then. Well, tonight the Black Eyed Peas will perform. Here’s what Fergie had to say bout the gig:
“It is a challenge because you want to give a little sex appeal but you don’t want to get into any trouble. So we’re very particular on the wardrobe. There will be no more malfunctions.”
Let’s hope not, Fergie, but something tells me that if anything were to “malfunction” the mainstream media would make it all will.i.am‘s fault and Fergie would become the lone Black Eyed Pea. (Sorry, couldn’t resist. J/K…kind of.) Anywhoo, I love the Black Eyed Peas so I will be forced to tune in to the non-Patriot Super Bowl this year. SMH.
Super Bowl Domestic Violence: Myth or Not?
Did you know that Super Bowl Sunday is allegedly the day that the 3rd highest amount of domestic violence crimes are reported?
Philadelphia’s DA called a press conference Friday, February 4th asking people to touch anything on Super Bowl Sunday – ANYTHING, except their loved ones, or another person.
The “Super Bowl = Domestic Violence” myth started in 1993, when a media-watchdog group convinced NBC to run a public-service announcement during Super Bowl XXVII against domestic abuse. The group’s claim – labeling Super Bowl Sunday the most active day for domestic violence and a “day of dread” for women – was based purely on anecdotes and without any statistical backing. The myth was later refuted by the Washington Post: http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/superbowl.asp
Then in 2005 there was a study in Idaho that confirmed it is the highest DV report day in Idaho, but some felt Idaho wasn’t representative of an American state? Huhhhhh? OK, myth or not, here are THE rules:
ABSOLUTELY noooooo fighting, bullying, intimidating, verbally or physically abusing each other from now on. This goes for MEN and WOMEN!
Today is also Porn Sunday in approximately 300 churches around the world.
According to television station KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa, some of the towns churches will join 300 other churches worldwide to discuss PORN. Together they will address parishioners problems or concerns with porn. Apparently those affected face struggles to find an authentic space of faith, spirituality and the ability to integrate sexuality into their relationships. In fact, Packers defensive end Pickett and a few other NFL players are involved with an organization that has declared February 6 to be National Porn Sunday. Apparently, Pickett’s a fairly religious man, and one of his interests is condemning pornography. Unfortunately, Pickett has a little conflict on Porn SUnday this year, he’s playing in the Super Bowl. But don’t fret, he pre-recorded a message to play during services.
Why on Super Bowl Sunday? Why in church? Why? People wanted to know, so I did some investigating and spoke to porn lovers, haters, pastors, addicts, occasional users, couples for and against porn (some people fell into two categories, LMAO) and here’s what I found:
Everybody has a different relationship with porn, some think it’s OK as long as discussed and shared if in a relationship. Singles don’t care what you think and a couple of addicted (meaning they are surfing porn sites more than 5 hours a day) seem to think it’s fine but people around them don’t. Pastors have a couple different views on the subject, one says it’s not his business another says porn is the devil’s tool. The guys in this promo video for Porn Sunday simply consider it a weakness and a problem:
Personally, I believe sex and intimacy is a part of our nature and everybody is different, I also believe that there is nothing that shouldn’t be discussed in church, it is where you go to lay down your troubles and be honest about your personal struggles and be forgiven or helped through them. I guess if porn is a $94 billion LEGAL business then in some cases it is being abused. Doesn’t the same go for chocolate, cigarretes, liquor, hell, Pepsi? Here’s the thing porn is a visual sexual stimulant that only becomes a problem if you are neglecting your responsibilities or your significant other to get it, or going broke to see it. To see if your church is participating today, check out the site www.xxxchurch.com *Shrugs*
Anywhoo, click here for the press release. Note that it says the information is appropriate for children of middle school age and up. Ummm, OK then. Porn Sunday it is.
Today is also National Frozen Yogurt Day – I kid you not..who in the world voted for that? In mid-winter? *Scratches head*
OK, gotta go. Enjoy your day and the damn Super Bowl… ahem, I mean schmuperbowl. Patriots!!
) LMAO.
