Killer Mike has released a socially conscious song called “Burn” in which he asks young people to think! What a concept, huh? Thinking.
The video for the song, which includes the protesting of Oscar Grant’s death, as well as an appearance by Diddy, is being banned by BET although MTV Jams has it in heavy rotation. Interesting. Killer Mike spoke to Bossip and here’s what he had to say:
“It is my sincere hope that Americans, no matter their race, creed or color, will see this video as I intended: as a scream of truth to powerful institutions, corporate and government, that we are suffering and deserve better.â€
This is the type of music that everyone complains is not out here. Is he swearing and using the N-word? Yes. Is his name Killer Mike? Yes. I wonder if his point is being overshadowed by his choice of “stage name”? What do you think the problem is? Is positivity just a non-accepted music form now? If so, we have serious issues that I hope people like Killer Mike and artists like David Banner continue to address.
