The Story Behind X Factor’s Astro Rewriting Eminem’s Lose Yourself

Fifteen year old Brooklyn native and X Factor USA contestant Astro, whose real name is Brian Bradley, performed his rendition of Eminem‘s “Lose Yourself” on last night’s live show. He rewrote the lyrics to the song himself and paid tribute to greats who have recently passed away like Joe Frazier and Heavy D. He even gave me a little shout out! LOL.

But before he could put his own touch on the hit record or even perform it, Astro had to get permission from the man himself, Eminem. He explained:

“It’s the first time he ever let anybody on a show sing and remix his song. L.A. [Reid] called Eminen’s manager who told us yes.”

And as if getting the green light wasn’t enough, Astro got the seal of approval when he learned that Eminem has been keeping up with the young talent, who has been producing his own music since he was 10.

“The manager said that [Eminem]’s been watching me and enjoys that I’m doing rap on the show. That was awesome.”

Nice. If you missed it last night, watch Astro’s performance below.
