Whitney Houston is currently filming the remake of the classic film Sparkle and the singing legend gave Shaun Robinson of Access Hollywood an interview while on set. Whitney shared details on the upcoming sequel to Waiting to Exhale and how Sparkle, which now has Jordin Sparks for the lead, was originally supposed to star the late Aaliyah.
On how Aaliyah was originally cast for Sparkle
“This was her movie. When we brought it to her, she was so enthusiastic about it and she wanted to do it so badly. She was our Sparkle. Unfortunately, it just didn’t go that way. I put it down. I said my Sparkle has gone to a better place and we just left it alone.”
On the Waiting to Exhale sequel
“You know what, that Terry McMillan, she keeps calling me about that Waiting to Exhale 2. I guess it’s inevitable. If my three other friends, my three ladies… I think they’re all in.
I just have to… I’m just settling down, just getting this under my belt and once I finish with this. I’m not going to say no. Savannah has to be, she has to come back.”
Earlier this year, the original cast of Waiting to Exhale, including Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon, confirmed that they would take part in the 1995 movie’s sequel. It has been said that Forest Whitaker will direct the Terry McMillan screenplay.
