In a somewhat surprising move, talent television show The X Factor USA let go half of its judges and the show’s host.
News came yesterday that host Steve Jones would not continue with the show and he later confirmed the news saying:
“I won’t be hosting next seasons X Factor which is a shame but I cant complain as I’ve had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show.”
Some already speculated that Jones wouldn’t be returning to the show, but very few suspected that judge and mentor Paula Abdul would be joining him.
Abdul also won’t be on the next season of the show. In a statement released earlier today, she said:
“I won’t be returning to The X Factor next season.
“I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations.
“Simon and I, along with Fox and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation.â€
But that wasn’t the end of it. Fellow judge and singer Nicole Scherzinger, who began receiving death threats after her decision led to the elimination of contestant Rachel Crow, also got the boot.
Scherzinger claims she wants to focus on her career, while other sources are saying none of the axed personalities, Jones, Abdul, or Scherzinger, left of their own will.
For now, it looks like Epic Records executive L.A. Reid will remain on the show along with creator, producer, and judge Simon Cowell.
