Essence is honoring to the late and legendary Whitney Houston by putting her on the April issue of the magazine.

Whitney’s sudden passing at the age of 48 both shocked and saddened the world. To commemorate her life, Essence will feature 16 pages worth of pictures and messages from her family and friends like Dionne Warwick, Terry McMillan, Jordin Sparks and Debra Martin Chase.

The cover uses a photo of Whitney from around the time she shot her famous film The Bodyguard in 1990.
