George Zimmerman Gets $150,000 Bond, Apologizes To Trayvon Martin’s Family

A week after he was charged for second degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman appeared in court today for his bond hearing.

Prosecutors asked that Zimmerman’s bail be set at $1 million, but Judge Kenneth Lester Jr., the newly appointed judge in the case, put the bond at $150,000 with conditions. According to CNN, the conditions include:

– GPS monitoring
– Zimmerman would have to contact authorities every three days
– No contact with the victim’s family
– No possession of firearms
– No use of controlled substances, other than those prescribed by a physician.

Should he make the bail, Zimmerman will be released while he waits for the trial in Martin’s death to begin.

Zimmerman also had a few choice words for the Martin family. Previous reports alleged that the 28 year old gunman wanted to meet privately with the Martin family, but they rejected his request.

So instead, Zimmerman used his time in court this morning to apologize to the Martin family, saying he was “sorry for the loss of your son.” He also insisted that he didn’t know how old Trayvon was and that he was unarmed at the time of the incident.

This was the first time Trayvon’s parents and family came face-to-face with the killer of their son.
