Last Thursday, Dr. Maya Angelou was honored at the National Theater in Washington DC. The event served to benefit the Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools and her See Forever Foundation.

Her good friend Common hosted the event and performed “The Dreamer” and “Blue Sky”, backed by Black Alley. R&B songstress Lil’ Mo also took to the stage to perform a beautiful rendition of “The Greatest Love of All.”

During the fundraiser, Dr. Angelou gave some words of encouragement to the crowd, saying, “Love says, ‘I dare to care for you. I dare to teach you. I dare to pull you into my bosom, and into my lap, and into my arms, and into my prayers.’”
