Earlier this week, Drake continued his Club Paradise tour (featuring J. Cole, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame, and French Montana), which initially began in the fall. MTV News recently caught up with him on the set of 2 Chainz’s “No Lie” video and he explained why he chose those artists for the tour and what fans can expect from his annual OVO Fest this summer.
On choosing the Club Paradise lineup
“I tried to put together a tour that consisted of … everybody that you hear in your spare time. These are the guys that are currently on the top of the game, so I tried to bring ‘em all out [for] one night. And that’s why the tour’s called Club Paradise, because I want it to feel like you’re gonna hear every song that you wait to hear in the club.”
On making tour stops in Houston, Atlanta, and Las Vegas
“I haven’t been to Atlanta in two years. I haven’t been back to Houston in a year and a half. It’s sad because I love those places, so I wanted to bring something real special and I’ve got all these guys looking amazing onstage and set changes for everybody.”
On who will be performing at OVO Fest 2012
“The lineup this year is kinda a mash-up of everybody. I’ve been on a couple of Club Paradise runs so you’ll be seeing a lot of the people that i went out with. Of course, OVOXO will be represented, myself and The Weeknd. That’s the most important show of the year to me, OVO Fest, so I’m hoping that we really make it special this year.
“The premise of OVO Fest is you never know who you gonna see. The first year I brought out Jay Z and Eminem. Last year, I brought out Stevie Wonder, Lil’ Wayne, Rick Ross. This year, we gotta step it up a bit.”
The Club Paradise tour will run through June and make stops in Washington DC, Chicago, and New York along with way. Click here to see a full list of dates and cities.
