The Houston family broke their silence earlier this year when they sat down for an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey after the untimely passing of pop icon and mother Whitney Houston. But now, it looks like the family is ready to take things a step farther. The Lifetime network has announced today that the Houstons will participate in a reality series.
According to Deadline.com, the docu-series will premiere later this year and feature 10 episodes.
Whitney’s mother Cissy, daughter Bobbi Kristina, sister-in-law and manager Pat, and brother Gary are all set to appear on “The Houston Family Chronicles,” which will show them trying to put the pieces back together after her death:
It will follow the lives of Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, who now manages her estate; Pat’s daughter Rayah; Whitney’s brother Gary; daughter Bobbi Kristina; and mother, Grammy-winning singer Cissy Houston, as they try to pick up the pieces after the pop star’s untimely death. The series will follow Pat and her husband, Gary, as they try to support Whitney’s teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina. In that, Pat enlists the help of her and Whitney’s inner circle, including Grammy-winner Dionne Warwick and gospel legend CeCe Winans.
Lifetime’s executive vice president Rob Sharenow also explained the concept of the show, saying, “The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her beloved family. In this series, the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.â€
And for her own part, Pat Houston said that she has been developing a television project based on her family for years. “The unexpected passing of Whitney certainly affects the direction of the show. However, it is my hope that others will be enlightened as they watch our family heal and move forward.â€
