Watch: Kanye West Explains Why His Last Album Was The Most Important Of His Career

Ice-T‘s documentary Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap, follows the history of rap music and gets insight from some of the pioneers and stars of the genre. Kanye West is one of the featured artists, and during his interview for the film, he shared how his last album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was his most important to date.

Dark Twisted Fantasy was released in November 2010, a year after the infamous Taylor Swift incident that brought West more backlash than ever. In an outtake for The Art of Rap, Kanye explains why he decided to actually write down lyrics for the project despite not doing the same for his first 4 albums.

Eminem and Nas are also in the The Art of Rap and they both freestyled for the film.

Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap will be in select AMC theaters on June 15. Click here to watch the trailer, which features Run DMC, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Dre, Common, and many more.
