Since the Atlanta spinoff of VH1′s hit reality series “Love & Hip Hop” premiered, viewers have accused the show of being scripted. Well, yesterday on MTV’s “RapFix Live”, executive producer Mona Scott-Young addressed the criticism and denied that what goes on during the episodes was fake.

The constant drama between cast members Stevie J, Mimi Faust, and Joseline Hernandez may be hard for viewers to believe, but Mona says it’s all real.

“At it’s core, this show is set in a very specific world and is dealing with the struggles that these women are experiencing.

“When I hear that the show is fake or I hear that the show is scripted. It almost negates their very lives because this is their lives, this is what their dealing with. It was going on before our cameras started rolling, it went on during and will continue to go on even when we pack up and leave the city.

“It’s almost like we feel, ‘If we sweep it under the rug, then it doesn’t exist.’ No, they have every right to tell their stories. I think they’re valid stories. Judging by the numbers, they’re stories that people want to see and hear about.

“But if this is not your cup of tea, there are other great shows on other networks and channels that you can watch as well.”

When Sway asked Mona if she feels she has a responsibility to show more of a balance on “Love & Hip: Atlanta,” she said:

“I feel a responsibility to tell truthful stories. I feel a responsibility to stay true to what we set out to do, which was to give a real depiction as told by these people.

“We don’t feed [them] information, it’s not scripted. That’s the most ridiculous thing that I hear all the time. There are 40-something odd people on set. Do you think I can get them all to keep the secret? What do they do with the script afterward? Eat it?

“This is their lives. What we do is we string it together in a way that we tell a cohesive story.”

Mona went on to say that viewers should reserve judgment on the cast until they watch the season in full. “You see their growth, you see their trajectory if you stick with the story.”
