One of the most anticipated speeches scheduled at this year’s Democratic National Convention was that of First Lady Michelle Obama. And she did not disappoint.

Just before she was to deliver the speech, President Obama commented:

“This is just like a relay. You start off with the fastest person. So I’m going to be at home, and I’m going to be watching it with our girls. And I’m going to try not to let them see their daddy cry. Because when Michelle starts talking, I start getting all misty”

The President wasn’t alone because throughout Mrs. Obama’s nearly 30 minute long speech, a number of people in the Charlotte crowd were seen with tears in their eyes because of her heartfelt words. The First Lady spoke about her humble upbringing, how it parallels to the President’s, and how he hasn’t changed despite his 4 years in office.

She told the audience that President Obama is the right man for the job because he understands what so many struggling Americans are currently going through. She said:

“In the end, these stories aren’t political. They’re personal.

“Barack knows the American Dream because he’s lived it. And he wants everyone in this country to have that same opportunity, no matter who we are, or where we’re from, or what we look like, or who we love.”
