Sunday Eats: Jerk Porterhouse Steak

My family is in town and we have been at Six Flags all day. I’m tired but we have to eat something.

It’s a nice weekend out and summer is winding down, so it’s a GRILL and CHILL night. The gang’s all here! Me, my dad, his wife Andy, my brother, and the kids!

The menu:
Grilled corn on the cob
Jerk marinated porterhouse steak
Mashed potatoes

Ingredients:
Porterhouse steaks (for everyone who’s going to eat one, and hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone else)
8 ears of corn (husks still on)
Golden potatoes
Spike Gourmet Seasoning
Stick of Butter
Sour Cream
Garlic

Directions:
So, I ran into my first dilemma at the store… How many steaks do I get? Who eats meat and who doesn’t? I don’t think this was a concern before AT ALL. The world has changed, eh? My nieces and nephews are 12, 10, and 5 and everybody eats meat, so I’m good. I grab 6 juicy steaks from the store, a bag of golden potatoes, and fresh corn.

First, get the steaks marinating, then, peel and put potatoes in the water to boil.

Take half a husk off each piece of corn. Clean corn, leaving husk on one side. Butter corn and season it.

LIGHT UP THE GRILL! I won’t lie, ever since I damn near burned down my mom’s back porch, I hesitate with a gas grill. But I sure do pay attention now!

Place corn on the girl, husk side down. Cook for 30 minutes, turning over after 20 minutes.

While the corn is cooking, grab the steaks and be ready to mash the potatoes. I like mine with milk, butter, sour cream, and garlic. So, that’s how it’s going down!

When the corn is almost done, pop those steaks on there and make sure you know how people want their steak.

Rare – slightly cooked on the outside
Medium – pink center
Medium well- slight pink center
Well done – I like mine like this, NO RED

So it’s time to eat and everyone is quiet. You know what that means! It’s good and everyone is focused on their food!
