Yesterday, Beyonce appeared at a press conference for her upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance and used it as an opportunity to silence some of her recent critics.
Before taking any questions from the media, Beyonce asked the audience to stand and proceeded to belt out a live rendition of the National Anthem. The move comes weeks after her highly analyzed and criticized performance of the song at the 57th Presidential Inauguration, which had the media in a frenzy over whether or not she lip synced during the historical event.
After proving her live singing abilities, Beyonce asked, “Any questions?”
Later, she admitted to singing to a backing track during her inaugural performance and explained why:
“I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. Due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I’m very proud of my performance.”
In an interview with the NFL Network later on in the day, Beyonce shared her reasoning for opening the press conference with a performance:
“I figured it was the best way to address it and move on. I love my job. I love my country. I love that I’m able to do what I was born to do, so I’m proud.â€
As for her halftime performance, she revealed she’s been rehearsing for it for the last few months but kept the details of it under wraps.
And here is more footage of those rehearsals:
