  1. Are You Ready For Another Madea Movie?

Tyler Perry‘s Madea’s Big Happy Family has gotten a release date and a movie poster to go along with it (which is a spoof of The Godfather). The film will be in theaters on April 22 and will star Bow Wow, Loretta Devine, Lauren London, Teyana Taylor, Isaiah Mustafa, and of course, Tyler Perry himself. See a quick summary of the plot below:

Madea (Tyler Perry) jumps into action when her niece, Shirley (Loretta Devine), receives distressing news about her health. All Shirley wants is to gather her three adult children around her and share the news as a family. But Tammy (Natalie Desselle-Reid), Kimberly (Shannon Kane) and Byron (Bow Wow) are too distracted by their own problems: Tammy can’t manage her unruly children or her broken marriage; Kimberly is gripped with anger and takes it out on her husband; and Byron, after spending two years in jail, is under pressure to deal drugs again. 2. Willow Smith To Possibly Star In Annie Remake

It looks like Willow Smith could be hitting the big screen again. Apparently, Will Smith, his Overbrook Productions company, and Jay Z are in talks to remake the classic musical movie Annie with Willow playing none other than Annie herself. The film would be produced in conjunction with Sony. Remember that it was Will’s Overbrook company that produced last year’s remake of The Karate Kid, which ended up grossing $350 million.

So what do you think? Can you see Willow as Annie?

  3. Halle Berry Says No To Aretha Franklin Biopic

Last week, Aretha Franklin called into The Wendy Williams Show and said she would like Halle Berry to play her in an upcoming biopic film. Well, it looks like Halle has politely declined the role. She told E! News at the Golden Globes that: “If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice.”

And there you have it. Do you think Halle made the right decision and who should play Aretha in her biopic?

  4. Trailer: Nia Long And Evan Ross In MOOZ-lum

During last fall’s Urban World Film Festival in New York, I attended many screenings but not one touched me like the screening of MOOZ-lum. Why? Because the story was so real and indicative of how prejudices of any kind affect people and how we are wired to deal with them.

Men one way, women the other, which results in perfect balance. Evan Ross‘ acting skills are beyond superb and with actresses like Nia Long, and Roger Guenveur Smith, I know for a fact that this movie will touch you. So check out the trailer and DEMAND that it come to a theatre near you by clicking the link below! This is a FreesWorld must see!

  5. Aretha Franklin Picks Halle Berry To Play Her In Biopic

Aretha Franklin called into The Wendy Williams Show to give an update on her health, the biopic on her life in the works, and her music. Speaking on the biopic, Aretha said “Halle Berry is my pick” to play her in the upcoming film.

Aretha also talked about her health, which has been a concern as of late. The legendary singer said that her health is “superb” and that she is currently recovering in downtown Detroit. Watch the full on-air call above.

Do you think Halle is the right choice for the role?

  6. Photo: Halle Berry And Sidney Poitier On Hollywood Reporter Cover

Sidney Poitier and Halle Berry posed together for the cover shot of The Hollywood Reporter for its legends issue. The pair were the first African Americans to receive Oscars for Best Actor and Best Actress, with Mr. Poitier winning in 1964 for Lilies Of The Field and Halle in 2002 with Monster’s Ball. Halle spoke about wanting her daughter to meet Mr. Poitier and what he’s meant to her:

One thing Sidney Poitier didn’t have in his leading-man heyday? Paparazzi. But on this December morning, Halle Berry, being Halle Berry, arrives at Poitier’s Beverly Hills home with her 2-year-old daughter Nahla — and four lensmen on her heels.

As they exit the car, Nahla sees the men and begins crying; the audience Berry wanted for her daughter with Poitier doesn’t happen, as Nahla is whisked away by a nanny.

“Sidney is part of our history,” says a disappointed Berry, who otherwise seems unfazed. “He’s a legend, and one day I knew she would thank me for allowing her to be in his presence.”

And what a mark he has made. It was a watershed moment in Hollywood when Poitier won the best actor Oscar for Lilies of the Field in 1963, becoming the first African American performer to do so. His victory, preceded by an Oscar nomination five years earlier for The Defiant Ones (1958), happened before Berry even was born. As a child, though, Berry eventually saw Lillies. “Wow. I was, even as a girl, madly in love,” she says. (To which Poitier jokes, “Now you tell me!”)

Watch an emotional Halle accept her Oscar in 2002, as Mr. Poitier watches on, below. (more…)

  8. Movies: Eminem Set To Star In “Southpaw” As A Boxer

Besides making a short appearance in Adam Sandler‘s Funny People, Eminem has stayed away from the big screen since his 2002 breakout 8 Mile. But Eminem will make his return with Southpaw, a movie about a welter weight boxer who triumphs through tragedy. The film is currently being written by “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter, who said:

“At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy. I love that the title refers to Marshall being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to Hip-Hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It’s a much harder road for a southpaw than a right handed boxer.”
