Movie-goers in New York and Atlanta spent a little time on Mars this weekend, as Disney hosted a series of private screenings of the upcoming film MARS NEEDS MOMS for VIP audiences, including “Real Housewife” Kandi, actress Terri J. Vaughn, Mona Scott-Young, Tameka Raymond, Hot 97′s DJ Enuff, Interscope recording artist Roscoe Dash, Sharlinda Parker (wife of 112′s Q Parker) and many more. (more…)
As if the first installment wasn’t enough, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis return for another round of craziness (along with Bill Clinton and Mike Tyson). Like before, there’s a wedding taking place, but this time it’s in Bangkok. Check the trailer above for The Hangover Part II, in theaters this Memorial Day weekend.
Here’s the actual, full length trailer for Tyler Perry‘s upcoming film, Madea’s Big Happy Family. This looks like it will be a good one. Directed by Salim Akil (husband of Mara Brock Akil, creator of “Girlfriends” and “The Game”), Jumping the Broom stars Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Mike Epps, Tasha Smith, Meagan Good, Pooch Hall, a grown Romeo Miller, and many more. The movie tells the story of two very different families coming together for a weekend wedding and the drama that ensues. Check for Jumping the Broom to be in theaters on May 6, 2011.
It looks like Aretha Franklin has had a change of heart about who she would like to see play her in her upcoming biopic. Aretha previously wanted Halle Berry to play her, but Halle declined the offer saying that she couldn’t do the Aretha justice. Now, Aretha has moved on to names like Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson for the role. Watch above as she speaks on her Grammy tribute, her health, touring, and more.
Now, a lot of you felt strongly about Aretha initially choosing Halle for the part. So, are Jennifer and Fantasia better choices?

Oscar award winner Mo’Nique helped announce the nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards earlier this morning. Leading the pack with 12 nominations is The King’s Speech, True Grit has 10 nods, and both Inception and The Social Network, with Justin Timberlake, has a total of 8. Black Swan, The Fighter (with Mark Wahlberg), and Toy Story 3 are also up for some awards.
Notably absent from the list are any African American (or minority, for that matter) movies or actors. The entire cast of Tyler Perry‘s For Colored Girls was left out. Halle Berry, though she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Frankie and Alice, also didn’t get a nomination. And even though Kathryn Bigelow took home the director’s award for Hurt Locker in 2010, there were no female directors nominated this year. Do you think this is an intentional snub or were there just not any worthy female directed or black movies out last year? Take a look at a few of the nominees below. (more…)
