Kanye West, Adele, Lil' Wayne Lead Grammy Nominations

Along with a concert live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater hosted by LL Cool J, the nominations for the 54th Grammy Awards were announced last night. When it was all over and done with, Kanye West led the pack with 7 nominations, Adele and Bruno Mars grabbed 6, Lil’ Wayne had 5, and Nicki Minaj, Drake, Rihanna, and Cee Lo Green all had 4 of their own.

Chris Brown, Marsha Ambrosius, Ledisi, Melanie Fiona, and newcomer J. Cole are also nominated for awards. See more nominees below.

Steve Stoute Slams The Grammys, Jermaine Dupri Responds

Media mogul Steve Stoute wrote a letter in the Style section of the New York Times recently calling out the Grammy voting board over some of this year’s winners. In the letter, Steve states that he believes the Grammys have lost touch with pop culture and are using artists to attract viewers to the award show while not giving them the recognition for their musical work. Jermaine Dupri made a response video on his “Living the Life” web series explaining the voting process for the Grammys and what artists can do to get their voices heard. Steve Stoute’s Letter
Over the course of my 20-year history as an executive in the music business and as the owner of a firm that specializes in in-culture advertising, I have come to the conclusion that the Grammy Awards have clearly lost touch with contemporary popular culture. My being a music fan has left me with an even greater and deeper sense of dismay — so much so that I feel compelled to write this letter. Where I think that the Grammys fail stems from two key sources: (1) over-zealousness to produce a popular show that is at odds with its own system of voting and (2) fundamental disrespect of cultural shifts as being viable and artistic.

Monica, B.o.B, Cee Lo Green, And Bruno Mars React To Grammy Nominations

The nominations for the 53rd Grammy Awards were announced yesterday and some of R&B and Hip Hop’s biggest stars were nominated. Eminem takes the title with 10 nominations, Jay Z with 6, John Legend has 5, and Rihanna and Drake with 4 each. Above, Monica, who is nominated for Best R&B Album and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, shared with MTV News what it was like to be nominated for the first time since 1999.
